This weekend has been
one of the best weekends of my life. For the second time, I got to attend Teen Vogue Fashion University at NYC.
It lasted three days and it was amazing!
The first night
(Friday) they threw us a party at H&M
at 5th avenue, and gave us 20% off, which is a lot. Then on the
second day, we had our seminars. The keynote speaker was Michael Kors. He was so funny and nice, such a good person and
designer. Then I had Alexander Wang. He has a true vision of fashion, and his
style is very plain, but his designs are wonderful. After that, Proenza Schouler guys made their
entrance to the event. Jack McCollough
and Lazaro Hernandez are a pair of young and bright designers that have
accomplished so much at a very early age. They are so humble and nice. It was
my favorite seminar for sure.
Then, it was time for
lunch. I went to a burger place in Times Square with two fellow fashionistas,
Anna Paula and Angeline. Then I headed to Whitney
Port’s seminar. It was nice to hear her point of view and to talk to her,
she’s so smart and a bright businesswoman.
My tour around the Teen Vogue offices was the best. I got
to see Amy Astley in her office, and
she remembered me!! She told me “Hey, you’re from Mexico, right? Did you know Proenza made a collection inspired in
Mexico?”. I was so surprised and happy she remembered me. We went to the famous
closet. It was beyond amazing, filled with every piece from every top designer.
I wish I could have gotten my hands on some of that stuff.
After that, we had the
editor’s panel, where they answered every question from every aspiring
fashionista. They were so nice and helpful. Then it was time for our private Topshop party at SoHo. The atmosphere
was amazing. Filled with really cool people, dressed so chic and original.
Photographers were taking snapshots to the attendees and waiters were giving
small pastries. Topshop gave every TVFU student a 20% discount.
I went out with my
friends from NY, Jacqueline and Nick, whom I met during my semester abroad in
Florence, Italy. It was so nice to see them again. We went to a bar and then to
Nick’s friend’s apartment. We had so much fun remembering old times.
It was Sunday, our
graduation day. We had only one seminar this time. “Fashion in the digital age”,
with wonderful speakers, such as Hillary
Kerr, Katherine Powers, Aliza Licht, Rich Tong, and Susan Koger. TVFU was
sadly over. They took the graduation picture to us and everyone took their own
way.
I took the rest of the day to go shopping at SoHo, the new Uniqlo store at 5th. Avenue, which is super cool. And at night my sister and I went to see Billy Elliot. Such an amazing musical. It’s so emotional and breath-taking. The next day we headed back to Mexico and my trip was over. I had such an amazing time at the city. Now I’m looking for schools to study there when I’m finished here.
